Easter Sunday began beautifully here in Seattle. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and we were very glad to have brunch plans with our friends, K & H. We'd arranged to meet at one of our favorite weekend brunch restaurants, Atlas (in University Village). The plan was to eat, chat and then take a walk on the UW campus...where the cherry trees are in full bloom.
It was wonderful! The weather had changed Saturday night, bringing wind and cooler temps, so we had a couple of layers on (VERY Seattle, let me tell you!) along with our sunglasses. We strolled around for an hour or so, very glad that we had [finally] taken the time to do this walk. The UW cherry trees and the Arboretum are the hot spots for beautiful views this time of year. We've all lived here for about three years, and this was the first outing dedicated to cherry tree vistas any of us had taken. Maybe next weekend the Arboretum's trees will still be blooming, and we can have a cherry tree walk "take 2".
On the way home we stopped off for groceries and dog bones. Sirius got a big old bone to chew on out back in the sunshine, making him a VERY happy puppy. Since it was still so nice outside, we just let him stay out there for a couple of hours. With a lab, tough, a couple of hours is all it takes before...he finds some way of getting into trouble. In this case, his trouble was some kind of stink-maker. He rolled in something. I cannot for the life of me tell you what it was, because we looked and couldn't find anything noteworthy. Certainly nothing that should make a creature smell like this. We hosed him off and he still stinks. A lot. A dreadful mixture of rot, foot, and fish. He thinks it's great. It figures.
Tomorrow we'll have to properly bathe him. He behaves for bath time, but he sheds so much that it's hard to keep it from clogging the drain. Of course, now it's raining (and the forecast says it will all week), so it will take him ALL DAY to dry. Still, the smell of wet, but clean, dog is always preferable to this...nose melting odor. Sigh. He won't be climbing up onto the foot of our bed tomorrow morning, that's for sure!
I'm glad we went yesterday. With all this wind, I imagine the trees have a lot fewer blossoms today than they did yesterday.
I got to one up my sister. She saw a bald eagle this week, but we saw FOUR. :D
KELLY REPLIES:
Oh! I'd forgotten about the eagles! It was beautiful, and they're always so awe-inspiring. What a gorgeous day.

What is it with dogs and smells? Let a dog loose in the woods and it *has* to go find something smelly to roll in, or else something yucky to eat and barf up later.
I've never seen a single bald eagle. Nor a married one, either.
KELLY REPLIES:
The mystery was solved when I caught him rubbing his neck in something near my flower bed. I think it was very old compost. Eeeewwwww. Anyway, he got a bath the next day, and now he smells like lavender. Ahhhh.
